Cell carriers are about to run into major problems as rumors of Apple’s legendary “iPhone” speculate increases that say the machine will eventually take advantage of VoIP services. “iPhone will probably be as disruptive to the existing carrier market as the iPod was to the mobile music industry. And when VoIP capability is added it will be even more disruptive,” Duffey reportedly said.
“UK consultancy Visiongain believes that this spring Apple will launch its rumored ‘iPhone’ — a high-end cell phone to which VoIP capability will subsequently be added,” according to a blog post at Innovation Analysis Group (IAG), “Apple and networking partner Helio are targeting the same young-consumer market as the one in which the iPod music device has been such a runaway success, according to Visiongain telecoms analyst Pam Duffey.”
Helio, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), says it expects to sign up to three million customers and slam through the $2 billion mark right around the corner in 2009.
With VoIP growing the US, the market will surley welcome an iPhone, even if it is just a fable. Other mobile telephony and VoIP providing companies however, could very well be shaking in fear at the turn of the decade.
