Popular car manufacturer, BMW, has announced a new interface for the next wave of BMW cars to interface directly with Apple’s wildly successful iPod.
The “BMW Interface for iPod” will be available in the next gneration of every current BMW model, including the Sports Wagons, the M5 Sedan, and the M6 Coupe. The interface will be compatible with all the “dock connector” supporting iPods, and will allow users to seamlessly integrate the iPod’s interface in to the car’s stereo.
“The seamless integration of iPod makes it effortless for drivers to control their music through their existing audio system and the multifunction steering wheel,” explains BMW to iLounge. “The new BMW Interface for iPod enables drivers to easily access their entire music library, shuffle songs, skip between tracks and adjust volume—all of this with no loss of sound quality or driving control. The BMW iPod Interfaces integrate the iPod through a direct connection in the BMW glovebox, providing outstanding sound quality and constant power to the iPod all while your iPod remains protected and out of view.”
The interface is set to be launched in July 2006, BMW refuses to release a price, however, says that installation will only be performed at Authorized BMW Dealers. The original iPod interface will continue to be available.
