Amp'd Backed By Verizon And Others
Niche-basd Mobila Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), Amp’d Mobile, has just raised another $150 million in venture capital funding from big investors such as IntelCapital and Qualcomm.
Amp’d, a reseller of Verizon’s services, has been very successful in marketing its media-heavy wireless package, while increasing the popularity of mobile music and video services.
However, some analysts see Amp’d diluting its focus soon and branching out to other areas, to avoid poaching too many of Verizon’s customers, staying on the wireless giant’s good side.
Amp’d could attempt an entrance into non-cellular wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi and WiMAX, which is probably considering it has received funding from Intel and Qualcomm. The company might also want to explore the idea of offering some kind of converged service for cellular/Wi-Fi phones.
Either way, Amp’d will continue to face the challenge of using the most up to date wireless technologies to deliver innovative service offerings, while trying not to offend its partner, Verizon Wireless.
